I Offer You My Heart by Ferrero13 I Offer You My Heart by Ferrero13
As the crows' last cries are consumed by the silence of midnight
The maiden's feet begin to dance: Take her to some place not here

---------------------------------

I've been gone a long time, and when I come back, I come back with a (bad) photomanipulation. Huh. This...probably isn't so good for my art career since I can't decide what exactly I want to do. I seem to want to do EVERYTHING. -.-"

I tried to paint, really, I did. Somehow, everything I tried to paint ended up looking really awkward that I couldn't continue them. I know practise makes perfect, but I can't seem to bring myself to practise when I know that what I produce will end up looking nothing like what I intended.

So I decided to try my hand at photomanipulation. I don't think I did too badly...but then again, I think dark (that is, not bright) photomanipulations are difficult. It's the ones that are bright that are, so this isn't really all that good, I guess.

I find photomanipulation really good for understanding contrasts, hue balance and whatnot. It's really fun when all you have to do is to adjust a little here and there.

I got lazy when I started on the boy, as you can tell...I originally intended the person holding the cage to be Death, but well, the lady was looking down, so I had to pick something smaller.

Now for really long credits...

EDIT 22.05.2011: Fixed the "hook in hand" thing. Well, tried to anyway. I think it was the orientation of the hook that was the issue.
EDIT 22.05.2011: ...I think I should seriously consider doing photomanipulations as my main type of art...I mean, wow, thanks for so many faves so quickly.

The boy in the place not here saw the lady dancing
"You stole my heart," he said, and handed her some flowers and his heart in a cage with no key

Yeah, I thought "Wow. She's good at this, being able to paint so awesomely." Although technically I bet you could...

Creepy. The little boy likes the...obviously older girl. XD

I couldn't. Trust me. I'd screw their faces up so bad.

And yes, the boy likes the girl. Well, he seems to anyway. See? He's giving her his heart. *laughs* Maybe he's a hobbit...?

omg, awesome! You scary person.

At first I thought it was digitally painted and it gave me a shock. Though I bet you'd be painting like that in 2-3 years time anyway, you're making amazing progress with digital painting.

I'm also experiencing an art block now. Whatever I paint just ends up being scrapped, mainly cuz I've been practising and reading up on oil painting too much lately so I keep trying to use colours and paint traditionally on the com, even if the drawing is anime-style, so everything ends up screwed. Ah well. One of those inspiration-less periods that we all have to go through from time to time.

*sweatdrop* 2-3 years is not enough time to paint at that standard...besides, I think I got worse over this past month (or two) in which I did NOTHING which was acceptable to put on deviantART. Major art block. Major skill decline too.

Hmm, I think I'll do photomanips from now on whenever I experience art blocks. I think it helps me a lot. Perhaps not in getting rid of the art block, but at least I'm active...

What happens when you try painting traditionally on the computer? I've never tried that mainly because I haven't painted traditionally (not much anyway), so please do elaborate. =)

Can lah, if you try and practise consistently. 8D

Same yo. All I've ever been drawing for the past 2 weeks were like, uh, small realism practise pics or squiggly drafts for my coursework research. I haven't uploaded anything proper for nearly a month. Yesterday when I tried drawing full-body, well, the proportions turned out okay in the end but I had to erase quite a lot to trim it to the proportions I envision. Oh and my lines went a little more sketchy meaning I was much more hesitant. Damn.

When I meant traditional painting I meant like those alla prima oil paintings which emphasize on use of colour and strokes. Aka I kept seeing minute changes in colour and sticking them into my digital paintings for anime drawings, like I would in a traditional still-life painting. It's definitely not very good for anime-style drawings, especially digital, unless you can do it really well. .__.

Great job on the lighting. The only thing that's annoying me in this picture is the way that the boy is holding the birdcage, right now it looks like the hook is going straight through his hand.
